Tom Fazio | Mind Body Performance Coach
Tom Fazio is an American performance coach, martial artist, author, and founder of the mind body integration system Weightlessness.
20 years ago, with a degree in philosophy and black belts in several Korean martial arts, Tom sojourned to the jungle of Koh Phangan, Thailand, and attempted to reconstruct a lost performance craft based on breadcrumbs he’d found in films and through personal research. He detailed this life-changing experience in The Birth of Weightlessness chapter, in In Pursuit of Weightlessness. In those months of relative isolation and training, he not only discovered a profound sense of physical lightness and psychological freedom, but something much more valuable - weightless moments in life can be designed.
A decade later Tom launched a concept studio – Enso Temple: Fashion & Fitness Lounge - in Shanghai, China, with co-founder and Polish fashion designer Monika Figlewicz.
Between his experience in the jungle and The Enso Temple years, Tom worked with a range of martial arts masters in various disciplines, ranging from Shaolin warrior monks and Tai Chi masters in China to MMA coaches and Muay Thai Instructors in Hong Kong and Thailand. Tom innovated his own version of the classical kung fu rope dart and chain whip – The Sash – as well as a comprehensive soft weapons system that spans long range shooting to close quarter self defense. In tandem, he owned and operated personal training businesses in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
This was a critical gestation period for Weightlessness, which until this time had been an evolving conceptual framework, and not a distilled method ready to be passed on. The shift from personal fitness and martial arts trainer to Weightlessness coach happened gradually… and then all at once. Tom began teaching the pillars of Weightlessness in tandem, rather than as isolated solutions to the spectrum of client challenges. Aided by incredible mentorship from world class entrepreneurs, coaches, yogis, and innovators, during these years, Tom received critical feedback and constructive sounding boards that helped translate Weightlessness to leaders and high performers across all domains.
In 2014 he released In Pursuit of Weightlessness (at that time, titled Weightlessness), and a year later in 2015 the first Weightlessness Tribe was launched, with credit to Amena.
The 100-day tribe process was a more effective breakthrough catalyst by orders of magnitude, forcing trainees to explore personal limitations and depths of identity in fundamentally new ways, and eliciting staggering transformations on the other side. It was an experience Tom couldn’t go back from, and as of 2022, he's facilitated 13 tribes.
In 2017 Tom left Shanghai for Vietnam where the system of Weightlessness was fully fleshed out over four years, as the constraints of remote coaching forced new refinements and articulations of the model. And in 2022 he returned to Denver, Colorado, his home state, after twenty years abroad, with his cat Bubbins.
Over the years, Tom has delivered Weightlessness via 100-day tribes in Shanghai, through MBA immersions and YPO retreats, in TedX talks and fitness Expos, in print through The Weightless Trilogy and Here Now Breathe, and remotely through The Weightlessness Process to leaders, coaches, and mind body enthusiasts worldwide.
